What is Mercury Premium?

Mercury Premium is an exclusive membership that offers jobs for medical professionals where you can earn significantly more for the work you do. But make sure you are eligible for Mercury Premium. In order to be a member, our candidates need to go through a rigorous screening process. Once you have met the criteria you will be offered a number of opportunities for procedures and clinics at a special rate.

What is the advantage of working with a medical recruitment agency?

The benefits of working as a doctor, nurse or healthcare staff with a medical recruitment agency such as Mercury, is not only that we have a deep knowledge of the market that you can tap into, but we also share relationships with many hospitals, increasing your chances of finding the role you are looking for. The other advantage of working with a solid healthcare recruitment agency includes our relations with compliancy agencies like New Zealand Medical Council and New Zealand Immigration.

If I have gone through another medical recruitment agency how do I work with Mercury instead?

If you have worked for another healthcare agency as a Locum doctor or if you are/were part of their healthcare staffing generally they will have a restraint of trade clause in the contract which can vary from 6 to 12 months to work in the same hospital. If you can find out how long that period is, you can then work with Mercury after this period of time.

However, there is no restraint of trade on working as a doctor, nurse, technician or administrator in a locum job with hospitals that you have not dealt with in the past. Additionally and exclusive from the other agencies, we offer our Mercury Premium membership. Find out more here.

Will the medical recruitment agency cover my flights and accommodation?

In most cases flights and accommodation are covered by our clients. The terms of the flights and accommodation can vary on a case-by-case basis. If you are an international candidate, you can make your own flight bookings accordingly and once in New Zealand or Australia, you will be refunded in the first invoice. For local travel within New Zealand or Australia, Mercury will arrange your bookings and accommodation.

Do I need a work Visa to work as a permanent, part-time or locum medical position in Australia or New Zealand?

Yes. Mercury can assist in advising about the type of Visa you should be applying for. We are not immigration advisors, so we cannot complete the applications for you or on your behalf, but we do have relationships with Immigration New Zealand and we will be happy utilise that relationship in order to process urgent requests.

What locations in New Zealand or Australia does Mercury cover for healthcare placements?

Mercury covers all locations within New Zealand and Australia, having the public hospital system as our main clients. We do Doctors placement, Nurses placement, Dentists placements and also offer Radiography jobs, Anaesthetic Technicians jobs and Medical Administration jobs.

How can I find jobs for medical professionals such as doctors, nurses, dentists, radiographers and medical administrators in New Zealand or Australia?

Doctors

What do I need to have in order to be eligible to work as a doctor in New Zealand or Australia with Mercury Premium?

In order to be eligible for our opportunities for doctors with Mercury Premium, you need to be a permanent resident or citizen of New Zealand or Australia.

In addition, you need to have full vocational registration with the New Zealand or Australian Medical Council and have a clear record with the Health & Disability Commissioner of the relevant country.

How long will it take to register with Medical Council of New Zealand or Australian Medical Council?

This depends on your qualifications.  It can take as little as 20 working days from application to 6 months for registration with Medical Council of New Zealand. For Australia, the process will be a lot longer and can take between 4 and 12 months.

What kind of registration is available to me through Medical Council of New Zealand?

The main types of registration available through Medical Council of New Zealand are: General Registration, Vocational Registration and Special-Purpose Registration. The Special-Purpose Registration includes Locum Tenens. Locum Tenens and Vocational Registration are only available to specialists / consultants.

Can a recruitment agency like Mercury help me with my New Zealand Medical Council registration?

Yes. Mercury has relationships with the Medical Council of New Zealand and has completed hundreds of registrations over the last 15 years.

We have experience in handling urgent requests, difficult applications, as well as tracking applications through to completion.

Can I have more than one job as a doctor in New Zealand or Australia?

Yes. If you register with Mercury, you will be offered a range of available positions for doctors such as permanent, part-time or locum medical positions. And it gets even better with Mercury Premium, where you can work weekends and/or after-hours without impacting your normal private or locum schedules.

Nurses

What do I need to have in order to be eligible for work as a Nurse in New Zealand or Australia with Mercury Premium?

In order to be eligible to work as a Nurse with Mercury Premium, you need to be a permanent resident or citizen of New Zealand or Australia.

In addition, you need to have full vocational registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand or Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council and have a clear record with the Health & Disability Commissioner of the relevant country.

How long will it take to register with Nursing Council of New Zealand or Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council?

This depends on your qualifications. Once the Council has received all the documents required for your application, a decision on your registration will be made within 30 – 40 days. For Australia, the process will be a lot longer and can take between 6 and 12 weeks.

In order to be eligible for our opportunities for Radiation Technologists with Mercury Premium, you need to be a permanent resident or citizen of New Zealand or Australia.

In addition, you need to have full vocational registration with the Medical Radiation Technologists Board.

How long will it take to register with the Medical Radiation Technologists Board?

This depends on your qualifications, documentation and the full registration fee payment to the board. It can take as little as 15 working days from the day your application was received by the Board.

How can I find jobs available for Medical Radiation Technologists in New Zealand or Australia?

What do I need to have in order to be eligible to work as a Dentist in New Zealand or Australia with Mercury Premium?

In order to be eligible for our opportunities for Dentists with Mercury Premium, you need to be a permanent resident or citizen of New Zealand or Australia.

In addition, you need to have full vocational registration with the New Zealand or Australian Dental Council.

How long will it take to register with the Dental Council of New Zealand or Australian Dental Council?

This depends on your qualifications. It can take as little as 6 weeks if all documentation is in order to 3 months for a registration with Dental Council of New Zealand. For Australia, the process will be a lot longer and can take up to 12 months.

What kind of registration is available to me through Dental Council of New Zealand?

The main types of registration available through Dental Council of New Zealand are:
Dentists, Dental Specialists, Dental hygienists, Dental therapists, Dental technicians, Orthodontic auxiliaries and Oral Health Therapists.

The main types of registration available through Australian Dental Council are:
Dentists, Dental Specialists, Dental hygienists, Dental therapists and Dental prosthetists.
